Is your PDF Embedder viewer not displaying correctly, and you suspect another plugin or your theme might be the cause? Isolating a conflict is a straightforward process. A few targeted tests will usually identify the source.
This guide explains how to test for plugin and theme conflicts on your WordPress site.
Getting Started
Before you get started, if possible, set up a staging environment or a local copy of your site to run these tests. Deactivating plugins and switching themes on a live site can temporarily affect how it appears to visitors.
Testing for a Plugin Conflict
- Deactivate all plugins on your site except for the free PDF Embedder plugin and our PDF Embedder Premium plugin (if you have it installed).
- Check whether the PDF embed displays correctly with only those plugins active.
- If the embed works, reactivate your other plugins one at a time.
- After each plugin reactivation, reload the page with the embedded PDF and check if the problem persists.
- If the issue reappears, the plugin you just reactivated is the likely cause.
Testing for a Theme Conflict
If deactivating all other plugins does not resolve the issue, the problem may be in your active theme.
- With all other plugins still deactivated, switch your active theme to a default WordPress theme such as Twenty Twenty-Four.
- Check whether the embed displays correctly.
- If it does, your original theme is contributing to the conflict.
Contact your theme developer with the details, or apply any necessary fixes using a child theme.
After Identifying the Conflict
The best way to avoid theme or plugin conflicts is to only install high-quality ones on your site. For more information on how to evaluate these components, check out WPBeginner’s guides to picking the best possible theme and plugins.
Contact the Plugin or Theme’s Support Team
It’s important to let the team for the product that’s experiencing the issue know what you’ve found. In many cases, the support team or author will be familiar with the problem already, and may even have a solution to share with you.
Let Our Team Know What You’ve Found
We really appreciate you taking the time to let us know about any problems you encounter and any solutions you’ve learned of. That way, our support team can share what you’ve found with others who are encountering the same issue.
Unfortunately, we aren’t able to fix issues with third-party code, such as themes or other plugins. As mentioned above, you’ll need to contact the support team for the conflicting plugin or theme to do that.
If you would like to look into alternative plugins or themes you can use instead of the one(s) causing the conflict with PDF Embedder, consider looking through WPBeginner’s plugin and theme archives. In some cases, we may also be able to provide recommendations to help you find a suitable alternative.
